Phindy is one of my favs-no secret about that, so when my friend Anne posted a new challenge over at Phindy's PCP group, I had to play along. Anne asked us to use the same image on two different cards. Certainly i could have used an image I have but---I skipped a cup of coffee at the coffee shop and got a new image instead! I had wanted this one from the moment I saw it-took me back to those ever special in my memory days when the kids played softball...first the cards and then a story. One of the things I love about Phindy's images is they do tell a story-and this one brings back a few stories for me!
I used soft, subtle colors here with these great inspirational Tim Holtz tickets. This could be used as an encouragement card, a congratulations card or just a note card. Now, contrast...
...a vibrant birthday with faux stitching and a Quickutz baseball glove. These cards were fun to make and not terribly labor intensive.
...and a story...
When my first three kids were small, they played softball in Brentwood, our wonderful little
neighborhood in Raleigh, NC. Kristin played for several years on a girls' team and John (then called John Peter) played on an all boys team. I'd pack up the babies and Erik and we'd sit and watch from the sidelines. Allergy season was in full swing so I always had a box of tissues, too! One of John's coaches approached me and asked if Erik could be on the team knowing full well that Erik had disabilities that would prevent him from playing.
"I'd like Erik to be the bat boy. We'd give him a uniform and he would officially be a part of our team."
David Fuller-don't know if you will ever make your way to this blog, but if you do---or someone who knows you does, I hope they will share this with you---you are a very special man who gave my little guy one of his best memories. I cannot even type this without my eyes spilling over-darn, there goes the mascara!
Erik was thrilled to be on the team and over-joyed to suit up and the trophy---it followed him his whole life. Okay, now I am in full-blown sob mode---it's been nearly 5 years since Erik died, but there are still moments when I am so tender---needless to say. this is one of them! Pause---I can't see, must collect myself...
Now, here's the cute part. We were off to the pool one afternoon and bumped into our neighbor, Mary.
Erik went up to Mary and exclaimed proudly, "I'm a bat boy!"
"Oh, no, Erik, you're a good boy!"
"I'm a bat boy!!!" he reiterated , just a wee bit annoyed.
Before Mary could once again "correct" Erik, I jumped in and explained. Yup, Erik was a good boy, and he was, thanks to David, a bat boy, too!
Both cute.. Love the tickets on the top one!!

Ann, you have made 2 very different but gorgeous cards from one of Phindy's brilliant images. I too had a wee tear in my eye when reading about Erik and seeing his lovely smiling face. Thank you for sharing with us.
Sending you many hugs,
Trish
